Hammerheads Sled Hockey Club Competes in USA Hockey Disabled Hockey Festival

The Hammerheads Sled Hockey Club, based out of Jefferson Health Flyers Skate Zone in Northeast Philadelphia, recently finished as runners up in the A Division at the USA Hockey Disabled Hockey Festival in Chicago in their first ever appearance in the tournament.

The Hammerheads Sled Hockey Club provides kids with physical disabilities from ages 5 to 18 to have the opportunity play the sport of hockey. “We have a great group of kids who practice hard while also having fun,” said Ted Manko, Head Coach of the Hammerheads.

Looking to create additional opportunities for their players, the Hammerheads expanded their schedule this season, which created quite the roller coaster ride of a season. After losing their first six scheduled games this year, the team won 23 straight games, including their pool games and semifinal games at the USA Hockey Disabled Hockey Festival. While they ended up just short by falling in defeat 2-1 in the championship game, the experience gave them memories that will last a lifetime.

The Hammerheads Sled Hockey Club is always open to new members for the team as it continues to help give kids with physical disabilities the opportunity to participate in sports. For more information about the club, visit or contact Liz Manko at [email protected].
